Well, I mean really, why do you?
Have you got a new man in your life, is your wardrobe becoming like an elephant graveyard? Have you recently looked in the mirror, seen a complete stranger staring back at you and asked ‘what’s happening to me, where did I go wrong’?
At this time of year the most popular reason is probably the hope that after New Year things will be different.
We’ll let me tell you, you’re not alone. I had the same thoughts myself until a couple of weeks ago. I found myself getting annoyed because if it wasn’t for the temptations leading up to Christmas I wouldn’t have been looking in the mirror feeling down.
I wouldn’t be have been thinking “We’ll that’s done it, I bet you‘ve put on loads and loads, you’ve had too many helpings, too much alcohol and you didn’t say no those mince pies.
I started to think about all the fad diets and other weight loss programmes I’ve tried that didn’t work. I began to miss the old me, I missed fitting into my favourite dress that I knew would turn heads when I walked through the door. The only heads that seem to be turning lately are people asking for directions.
So here I am now standing on the scales and hoping that it won’t be all doom and gloom. I’m shocked to see I’ve dropped down to 12 stone 6lb’s. I was 13stone when I started my weight loss challenge. It hasn’t been easy but I’m no longer satisfied with a short term fix. A yummy treat that lasts for a moment, no longer seems a fair exchange for the face and body I use to see in the mirror. Yes, I’m getting older and time isn’t always kind but I’ve realised I don’t need to help him so much.
So, why do I want to lose weight for the New Year? Partly to be challenged. There’s is nothing as motivating as someone daring you, yet that isn’t enough; I need to want to do it for myself. Why, because I’ve started to forget what it feels like to feel sexy. You may think that caring about my health should be more important but I can tell you, I was at my healthiest when I was looking ‘fit’ and sexy in my little black dress.
Why, do I want to lose weight in the New Year, so I can feel like the ‘old’ me again and shed the years as I shed the pounds? To find out more about my weight loss challenge or if you want to see what obstacles I’ve had to overcome, then check out my challenge blog here.
